Dhanu Sankranti is the famous festival in odisha



Dhanu Sankranti marks the day when Sun enters in the Sagittarius or Dhanu Rashi. The festival falls on this year 16th December 2015 Wednesday.  Dhanu Sankranti marks the beginning of the ninth month in Hindu Solar Calendar.
This festival celebrate in God  Surya or the Sun God is worshiped.
Devotees take a dip in the sacred rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Yamuna as it is considered a very auspicious ritual.
This festival is celebrated with great gusto in Orissa. Lord Jagannath is worshiped on this day. The month of Pousha is considered the month of plenty. Hence, after collecting the harvest a festival of celebration is organized. A special delicacy made of sweetened rice flakes Dhanu Muan is prepared which is offered to Lord Jagannath.
A street play is held on this day in the Bargarh town of Orissa that depicts the various episodes of Lord Krishna’s life. One of the episodes is based on Krishna’s visit to Mathura to witness the Bow ceremony organized by Kansa.  Kansa had invited Krishna and Balaram on the occasion of Dhanu Yatra with the evil intention of killing them. This annual festival showcases scenes right from Lord Krishna's birth to the killing of the demon by him.

Kali puja also know as shyama puja or Mahanisha puja. This festival dedicated to Goddess Kali.Kali Puja is celebrated in the honor of the Dark Goddess, Maa Kaali. The festival of Kali Pooja is celebrated on the new-moon day of the Hindu month of Kartik.
Kali Pooja is a major festival in East India, which is widely celebrated in the states of Bengal, Orissa.On the same day, the festival of Diwali is greatly celebrated in many other parts of the country.

It is always good to know the Puja Muhurat in advance, so that best results can be obtained by worshiping and performing Puja rituals in this auspicious period of Puja Muhurat time.
‘Nishita’ time refers to night time because Kali Pooja rituals are mainly performed during the night time; therefore, the Nishita time Muhurat is given priority for Kali Puja.

Buddha Jayanti

Buddha Jayanti or buddha purnima 

 Vesak (Buddha Purnima, Buddha Jayanti) is a Buddhist festival that marks Gautama Buddha's birth, enlightenment and death. It falls on the day of the full moon in May and it is a gazetted holiday in India.
Government offices, post offices and banks are closed in India on Vesak. Stores and other businesses and organizations may be closed or have reduced opening hours. Transport is usually unaffected as many locals travel for religious celebrations.
Gautama Buddha was a spiritual teacher in India. Many scholars are uncertain when he lived. It is believed that Buddha was born at some time between sixth and fourth centuries BCE. Opinions among scholars are generally divided between those who place Buddha's death about 480 BCE and those who place it as much as a century later.
Different Buddhist communities may celebrate Vesak on different dates in years when there are two full moons in May. This is because the Buddhist lunar calendar can be interpreted in different ways.
The dharmacakra or dharma wheel is a symbol often seen during Vesak. It is a wooden wheel with eight spokes. The wheel represents Buddha's teaching on the path to enlightenment. The eight spokes symbolize the noble eightfold path of Buddhism. This Festival Lord Buddha Wear the traditional Khandua.

Janmashtami

The festival Knows as  KrishnashtamiSaatam Aatham,GokulashtamiAshtami RohiniSrikrishna JayantiSree Jayanti or sometimes simply as Janmashtami, is an annual celebration of the birth of the Hindu deity Krishna, the eight avatar of vishnu.
The festival celebrate on the eight day(Ashtami) of the krishna of the month of Sharavana(Augest - September). The festival special celebrate in  Lord krishna life and Rasa lila.Krishuna  was eighth son of Davaki and Vasudeva,the date of Krishna's birth, known as Janmashtami.
The festival celebrate in Janmashtami by fasting and staying up until midnight, the time when Krishna is believed to have been born. Images of Krishna's infancy are placed in swings and cradles in temples and homes. At midnight, devotees gather around for devotional songs, dance and exchange gifts. Some temples also conduct readings of the Hindu religious scripture Bhagavad Gita and all women's wear the new saree and girls wear traditional dress.

Bhai Juntia Festival

Bhai Juntia Festival is famous in Sambalpur.

This festival is common mostly in the regions of western Odisha. On this occasion, girls and women observe a whole day fast for seeking the blessings of Goddess Durga  for long life of their brothers(Bhai).Bhai Juntia Festival is the regional festival of Odisha.
This festival celebration  the two brothers and sisters is observed in Orissa. Bhai Juntia Festival is observed in the different parts of Orissa on Tuesday. The women of all ages wished for their brothers' long life and prosperity by touching their forehead with a bunch of grass locally called Durba and a morsel of rice.The festival also presented by the married women with a happy opportunity to visit their father's place. 
The Bhai Juntia Festival is observed every year on Durga Astami. The married and unmarried women keep a fast throughout the day. They offer special Puja before Goodess Durga  and prepare a bunch of grass of about 108 strands and a morsel of rice on Monday. They break their fast with the fruits and non vegetated food items only after the ritual is over.It is a festival where the brothers and sisters also exchange new clothes and gifts on the occasion and enjoy this day.
