"Dhanu Sankranti" Famous festival Odia People

"Dhanu Sankranti" marks the day when Sun enters in the Sagittarius or Dhanu Rashi. Dhanu Sankranti marks the beginning of the ninth month in Hindu Solar Calendar. This symbolizes the beginning of the auspicious Dhanur mas for the Vaishnava sect.


On this day, Lord Surya or the Sun God is worshiped. Devotees take a dip in the sacred rivers like Ganga, Yamuna, Godavari, Yamuna as it is considered a very auspicious ritual. This festival is celebrated with great gusto in Orissa. Lord Jagannath is worshiped on this day. In Orissa, the month of Pousha is considered the month of plenty. Hence, after collecting the harvest a festival of celebration is organized. A special delicacy made of sweetened rice flakes Dhanu Muan is prepared which is offered to Lord Jagannath. This festival celebrate in all people and wear new dress

Ganesh Chaturthi.

 Nirvignam kurumedevah sarbakarye susarvada”

Ganesh Jayanti also Know as Magha shukla chaturthi, Tilkund chaturthi, and Varad Chaturthi, is a hindu festival..The festivals falls on shukla paksha chaturthi day in the month of September. 
 On that day the Baby child started there study  at the time of Ganesh Chaturthi. The children wear new dress with lots of fun.They take the fasting  from morning to the end of puja.
They end the puja and go to home by taking the prasad.The children's play whole day.
The festival  is too much important in Maharashtra and in whole India. The festival falls on the 4th of the day of the bright fortnight of Bhadrapada(August- September). People buy Ganesh image to keep in their house as a divine guest for five to ten days. The image is then taken out ceremoniously and immerse to the river, sea or well.
Modak and ladu  is special Ganesh Chaturthi. Aarti is performed morning and evening a long as the Ganesh idol is at home.Huge Ganesh idols are worshipped at nicely decorated pandals, also known as Dekhavas for 8 to 10 days. These Dekhavas are organized by the Mandals, worked collectively for the entire locality. Various Mandals shouting the slogans of Ganpati Bapa Morya take out huge processions during the first day and the day of immersion of the idols throughout the city.
